With the premiere on 18 September 2022, the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dortmund Music School will start their cooperation project on the topic of climate change. Seven Dortmund primary schools will also be involved: In art lessons, pictures will be created about the ocean, the melting of the ice and the various forms of social cooperation in changing values. The images will be animated and played on a large projection screen above the orchestra.
The accompanying story with "Fairy Felina" was penned by Andrea Hoever, the music educator of the Philharmonic Orchestra Dortmund.
There will be performances at the Konzerthaus Dortmund at 10:15 and 12:00.
THE NEXT WORLD - Suite for orchestra, soprano solo, percussion and piano.
The orchestral suite is written as a four-movement concert piece for philharmonic orchestra.
The music is based on a dedication to the powerful nature of the sea and the sublime expanse of the melting Arctic ice landscapes and their encroachment by man.
A special feature in the music are the percussion parts: Taiko percussionists, positioned on high platforms behind the orchestra, play percussive rhythms as we know them from film music.
That sounds fantastic.
The other musical pole is the timbres of calm and drama shaped by the orchestra, located in the world of classical tonality and jazz modality.
There is a solo aria in each movement. The arias crown each movement and offer a variety of associations with the four images of the suite.

With the visual artwork "THE NEXT WORLD", the composer breaks new ground. This is reflected in the unusual instrumentation.
The traditional orchestra instrumentation is expanded to include African Ashiko drums and piano. From our European musical culture, symphonic contemporary music and African rhythm sounds, a bow is thus drawn across cultural borders.
Four central arias focus on the theme of each movement of the orchestral suite.
The musical direction is by conductor Ingo-Ernst Reihl.
Soprano solo: the magnificent Elena So.
